Virginie NGUYEN HOANG. Ukrain, life under Fire

Produced between June 2022 and May 2023, the first part of this exhibition shows the suffering of Ukrainians over the past year: bombings, men, women and children killed and traumatized, the tragedy of a war that should not be happening in the twenty-first century. Exhausted by a year of conflict, Ukrainians only have one objective: to get back to the ‘normal’ life that was taken from them. This is the case of Diana, 11 years old, and her grandfather Dmytro, 67 years old. After a year of hardship during which bombs rained down on them regularly in Kharkiv, they have been trying go back to an ordinary life since the Russians were pushed back behind the border in September 2022.
Meanwhile, on the Eastern and Southern fronts, Ukrainian soldiers are fighting to liberate their country and protect civilians from Russian aggression. Images from the front make up the second part of this exhibition, particularly from the Kherson region, where Skif, the leader of a group of volunteer soldiers, took part in the liberation of Kherson and the surrounding cities in November 2022. Since then, Skif and his men have been working to take back more territory beyond the Dnieper river.

This exhibition shows the work done produced in the midst of civilians and soldiers who all want the same thing: to liberate their country and bring this murderous war to an end.
