Jean-Marc Chapa. La Vie Nue
“I never tire of observing the world around us in all its beauty, strangeness and diversity. There is no real social message, the intention is more one of upheaval. It is sometimes dark, as poetry can be, as can the daring attempt to trace back to the discomfort of thought. And then, underlying it all, there is desire, the true guiding thread - whether it is young or old, new or worn, moral or immoral, it is in any case the ultimate guarantee that we are still alive... “ Jean-Marc Chapa
Jean-Marc Chapa is a Belgian photographer whose work is characterised by a strong sensitivity and artistic independence. He is known for his series Walking with the Dogs, which explores the human condition in all its complexity head-on. Jean-Marc Chapa is also known for his book Fuck You, which illustrates his insolence and his refusal to compromise with his art, seeking to capture the authenticity of his subjects.
Chapa is described as a photographer with a ‘considerable drive to live’, attentive to the humblest and the most precarious. His work attempts to capture the unspoilt energy that remains in everyone. His approach is characterised by great freedom of expression.
The exhibition Naked life presents a selection of photographs from various works by the photographer. The book Yugen (Preto Publishing) has been released to coincide with the exhibition.
